Venue: Krakow, ACE! Conference
Johannes Thönes talks to Linda Rising, author, speaker and independent consultant, about the Agile Brain. They start by talking about the fixed, talent-oriented mindset and then contrast with the learning-oriented mindset. After establishing the terms, Linda explains how we know which mindset we are in currently and how we can change it for us and others, for instance, by offering praise in the right way.
In the second part of the interview, they discuss why scientific experiments would be necessary to improve our work, and how we can port some of these practices in our daily work — for instance through retrospectives.
This episode was recorded one day before Linda’s 73th birthday.

Great episode – thanks.
It would have been interesting to hear Johannes’ thoughts on how fixed vs agile mindsets apply in work scenarios where outcomes are rewarded more than effort.

Fantastic information! The underlying thread of dropping the ego and just going for it was great. Easy to say, so tough to do. In a corporate environment, it definitely takes the right culture. So often failures are seen as a bad thing. I’ve started talking about my own failures as just that and have noticed at first people are shocked. Then I talk about the learning from that failure and the light seems to click. Thanks for the great information.
hi there there is a wrong link in here:
Episode 139: Fearless Change with Linda Rising http://www.se-radio.net/2009/06/episode-138-learning-as-a-part-of-development-with-allan-kelly/
it is 139 but the linked one is 138 🙂
Thank you! I updated the link.
Hi Peter. Thanks for your comment.
I would assume, that scenarios where outcome is more important than effort are often scenarios where the __perceived__ outcome will be valued. That will strengthen the fixed mindset (look good) rather than the agile mindset (get better). But that’s a guess.
Are you interested in anything specific?
Thanks Alexander – was also very inspiring for me to do the interview!
Oh, I have to try this out myself. I really want to learn to draw my talk slides!
I’m glad you liked it. It’s cool that you take the effort and reveal your failures and allow other to learn. I guess that takes great courage!
Great episode. Linda is such an inspiration!

Recently had a team meeting where I wanted to share remarkable 2,5 minutes 7:00 – 9:30 from the episode related to multitasking, a must know. Again episode where Linda was interviewed and I felt afterwards it brought inspiration to grow up as father, team manager, coworker and a man. Thanks to both of you.
