Recently, the IEEE Computer Society’s popular SE Radio podcast included a sponsored advertising campaign that sparked a negative reaction among many of those involved with producing SE Radio, as well as among a number of listeners. In response to that reaction, the Computer Society has reviewed the advertisement and removed it from the podcast. In the future, advertisements will be more carefully vetted for appropriateness.

Thank you! That ad creeped me out as well, and spoke too closely to the unethical application of technology in the service of fear.
Hope this means no more military- or weapons related ads. I wouldn’t mind ads for things like computing equipment, though.
